The summer nearby home and further on
"Fleur" is situated in the region of Kysuce, a typical Slovak region, full of lush green forests, mountain streams and enclosed fields. Explore the rich culture and authentic folklore hiking or cycling. Many villages provide a good picture of the original settlements of the 15th century.
Veľká Rača mountain (1200m) is a popular tourist destination for true nature lovers. Here you can still find untouched forests with the gentian, Carpathian snowdrop, wild gladioli and lilies. Besides mountain butterflies and salamanders you can see deer, roe deer, boar, fox, and squirrels. Even the lynx, wolf and brown bear can be sighted in remote areas. If you observe three rules, you won't be surprised by these animals: do not throw food out in nature, always stay on the designated hiking and cycling paths and don't go out for a trip before sunrise or after sunset.
Čadca is a wonderful city with great shopping and sports facilities. For example, there are 4 cycling trails that run from Čadca and take you past enchanting spots.
But there is more to offer than just cycling and hiking. At Sun Paradise in Oščadnica (10 km) sporting families will find whatever they would like to do: monkey walks, giant scooters, trampolines, climbing walls, bouncy castles for young children, summer bobsledding and grass boarding (snowboarding on grass). Other activities that can be enjoyed in the vicinity of the chalet include: fishing, mountain climbing, golf, canoeing, paragliding, horseback riding, swimming, gliding, surfing, water skiing, volleyball and tennis. These are all activities that fit in a vacation in which you do something different than usual. A special tourist highlight is the 3.6-kilometer-long rail journey from Nová Bystrica by narrow gauge steam locomotive. Until 1971 it was used to transport timber from the forest.
In order to create a large reservoir, an enormous area around Nová Bystrica was inundated. Some buildings from that area have been preserved and were brought together in the open air museum. Also there is a picture of the olden crafts. This region lies in the northeastern part of Slovakia, bordering the Czech Republic and Poland. Take a short drive and you can get acquainted with them. It is fun to explore the differences with the Czech Republic (which until 1993 was conjoined with Slovakia) and Poland. The beautiful provincial capital of Žilina is great for shopping. Here you can also find McDonald's and Carrefour.
It is certainly worthwhile to take a day trip to the capital of Bratislava (2 ½ hours) and/or the capital of Austria, Vienna (3 ½ hours). Bratislava lies on the Danube, where a modern bridge connects the two banks. The old city houses many museums, including the Municipal Museum which contains torture rooms, a wine museum and palaces. The former Roman fort of "Gerulata" towers high above the city. Climb up and enjoy the fantastic panoramic view as well as the treasures of the National Museum located in the fort that was converted to a castle. Tour this unusual city with its attractive old town, suburbs with modern hypermarkets and promenades along the banks of the Danube. If you feel like visiting more countries, the Austrian border is only about 6 km away from the center of Bratislava, and Hungary's border lies only 16 km away.
You will not be bordered in Slovakia!
